How to Collect Files From Clients With a File Request Link

Stop asking clients to email you files one at a time. Send a file request link instead they upload directly to you, no signup form or password required on their end.

Sharing files is the easy half of the problem. The harder half is the other direction  when you need something from someone else. “Can you send me the contract?” turns into three email reminders and a file that eventually shows up compressed, renamed, or split across two messages. A file request link fixes this by flipping the upload around: you send a link, and the other person uploads directly to you.

How a file request works

Instead of waiting on an email attachment, you create a request with a title and an optional message, and get a link back. Send that link to whoever has the files  a client, a vendor, a new hire  and they upload straight to your account. You don't need their files cluttering your inbox, and they don't need to figure out how to compress a folder to fit an attachment limit.

Creating a file request

  1. From your dashboard, create a new file request and give it a title, like “Signed Contract” or “Final Deliverables.”
  2. Add a short message if useful  what you need and why.
  3. Set an expiry so the request doesn't stay open indefinitely.
  4. Optionally add a password, and set limits on how many files or how much total size you're expecting.
  5. Send the link directly, or enter the recipient's email and Letshareit sends it for you.

What the other person sees

They open the link and see exactly what you're asking for. There's no account to create and no password to set up on their end  they enter their email, get a one-time verification code, and once they confirm it, they can upload. That's the entire barrier: an email and a code, not a signup form.

Once they've uploaded, you can get notified immediately if you turned that on when creating the request, instead of having to check back manually.

Why this beats asking for files over email

  • No size surprises. You're not stuck with whatever an email attachment limit allows large files come through the same way any Letshareit upload does.
  • Everything lands in one place. Instead of hunting through an inbox for which email had the final version, every upload against a request shows up together.
  • You control the window. An expiry means the request closes itself out instead of staying open forever as a loose thread.
  • It's harder to ignore. A dedicated link with a clear title reads as more specific than “just send it whenever you get a chance.”

Good uses for a file request

  • Collecting signed contracts, forms, or ID documents from clients.
  • Asking a photographer, videographer, or contractor for final deliverables.
  • Gathering application materials or portfolio files from candidates.
  • Onboarding new clients who need to hand over existing assets or documents.

The bottom line

When you need files from someone else, don't wait on an email attachment that might not fit. Send a file request link, and let them upload directly  no account setup on their side, just a quick email verification. Create your first file request and see how much less chasing it takes.
